Fairy Dust or Fiction?

Theodora over at Witty/Pretty alerted me to this.

I should start by saying that I LOVE Disneyland. Love. It. I would marry Disneyland if I could because I love it that much. It's all fake and silly, but I love the painstakingly themed areas and rides. What I do not love are the cheesy parades. Some are better than others, but overall I have a hard time watching talented folks dressed up like bits of coral belting out corny songs while smiling furiously. The happiness always seemed forced - even in the land of make-believe.

Go to Disneyland enough times and you might see someone propose*. I'm sure it's treat to watch a regular guy get down on his knee in front of Small World. But this proposal is so sweet it's saccharine. This couple is clearly a fake. Her hair is so beautiful and groomed I find it hard to believe that she's just a tourist visiting Disneyland. And the guy belts into song and random members of the crowd walk out and congratulate her before breaking into dance moves and she doesn't seem surprised. These people are parade people. The extra enthusiasm in their steps, the super fantastic smiles, and the ability to project their voices so effectively scream DISNEYLAND PARADE. Listen to the lyrics if you can stand it, and you'll notice that he mentions many, many park attractions in his declaration of love.

Highly dubious:

I love you Disneyland, but try again. This time with more feeling.

*Kay's official recommendation! If you're going to propose at Disneyland, do it at the Snow White wishing well, off to the right of the castle. That area is as private as Disneyland gets without having to get down on your knee near the restrooms at the Hungry Bear restaurant.

  1. "Fantasmic prowess," eh?

I like the "random guy" in the crowd at 4:23 who mouths, "No way!"

  2. I didn't see that before! I suspect most of the crowd is also fake. I noticed that a very high percentage of them are wearing Mickey Mouse or Disneyland t-shirts, and holding shopping bags from the park.
