Interesting date creates dearth of good wedding stories

Between K.Kardashian, the 11/11/11 wedding date FREAK OUT, and Twilight, all the wedding stories are well-covered. What do you want from me?

Oh, right, weird stuff. Okay, here's some stuff from the past:

Everyone loves/d Steve Jobs, but who likes Bill Gates? ME. The man's a philanthropist. He's the Princess Diana of the tech world, y/y? (HAHA. Don't write me hate mail)

Unfortunately, wedding photos of Bill and Melinda Gates seem to be under lock and key, so here's a fun fact about their engagement:

Bill proposed marriage to Melinda in 1993 when he "secretly diverted a chartered plane they were taking home from Palm Springs one Sunday night to land in Omaha. Warren Buffett met them there, arranged to have a jewelry store open, and helped them pick a ring."

It sounds surreal to me, but they probably just called it Tuesday.

Here they are, healing babbies with their hands.

Henry Rollins officiated a wedding ceremony (off an iPad; sorry Bill!) at the Austin, TX Fun Fun Fun Fest:

He was probably saying important things, but I just like to look at him. Oh, Hank.

No post is complete without a funny picture. In July, a man was arrested after running onto the field during a baseball game. He was wearing a wedding dress.

Here's the happy-ish couple.

Good luck to all you 11-11-11 brides! Next year, good luck getting a dinner reservation at the nice restaurant in town.

Renew your vows on the Weezer cruise

It seems that celebrity cruises are all the rage (not Celebrity brand cruises, but cruises with celebrities), and Weezer is jumping on the cruise wagon. For as little as $500 you can cruise from Miami to Cozumel with Weezer, Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, and The Knocks.

"Weezer bassist Scott Shriner [will be] performing ceremonies for married couples to renew their vows.

This reminds me of the Bruce Campbell zombie wedding and mass vow renewal - maybe vow renewal is a trend with these celebrity events?

The rest of the Weezer cruise details:
Drummer Pat Wilson will challenge fans in a shuffleboard tournament, while guitarist Brian Bell will host a midnight movie pajama party and Weezer frontman, Rivers Cuomo, will read selections from his book The Pinkerton Diaries.

I know there are some ravenous Weezer fans out there who will readily pay $500 for special performances and a meet-and-greet with the band. I guess it's like a music festival on the water - hopefully with better food and sanitation!

Here's my favorite Weezer song:

Wedding crasher was a total wiener

Last week my favorite fist-wavers The Consumerist posted a story about an unusual wedding crasher.

From a Consumerist reader:
My sister got married this weekend at a church in Dewitt, NY and while we were all getting our photos taken, we saw the Oscar Meyer Wiener-mobile nearby. We waved to it and, to our surprise, it pulled into the church parking lot!

They pulled up to us, handed out wiener whistles and allowed us to take pictures in front of it. Such awesome behavior will certainly ensure that I'll be picking up a few of their products on my next trip to the store!

Yay! I strangely LOVE the Wiener-mobile. I've seen it twice. The first time was during high school summer break; I saw it rolling down the street at the beach. The second time was at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit where I purchased several wiener whistles for...reasons.

Have a day!

John Krasinski and Jason Segel serenade a bachelorette party

I love J.Kras and Jason Segel more than I can say, so I find this adorable:

According to TMZ:
It all went down at a bar in Ann Arbor, Michigan -- we're told John and Jason were hanging out with Emily Blunt and "Community" actress Alison Brie ... when the girls at a nearby bachelorette party asked the guys to sing for them.

John and Jason happily obliged -- with a pretty awesome rendition of "Brown Eyed Girl" -- and we're told, the bride-to-be couldn't have been happier.

Slow how you wanted it to be

Do you have a big, gigantic crush on Dave Grohl like I do?

He was really adorable in his Nirvana days, and has only gotten more attractive with each passing day. He's aging really, really well. But enough of my gushing, check out his beautiful performance of Everlong from the Foo Fighters wedding.

There's a bit at the end where they show off the 3-tiered wedding cake. It's studded with the FF logo, and it has two couples on top since the Foo Fighters' wedding couple had to share honors.

The wedding was part of an Mtv stunt in 2005 called "24 Hours of Foo".

If Dave Grohl was at my wedding, there's no way I'd be focused on my family, friends, or husband. Because marriage is forever, but Dave Grohl only sticks around for a while (despite a song to the contrary).

Also, bonus link! On of my favorite Nirvana songs - Marigold. The only Nirvana song written and sung by DG.

Britney Spears - Bridesmaid dress

I would think that with all of her money and fame, someone like Britney Spears could get out of the task of being a bridesmaid. She was in a wedding over the weekend, and this celebrity gossip site has pictures of the dress she had to wear:

She and the other bridesmaid are attractive women with nice figures, and they look terrible in these dresses. The pale blue is a really unflattering color for both women, and the skinny belt with the angular halter neck look really severe.

Pale dresses like this one always hit my eye wrong next to a black tux.

I'm fairly certain that this is one of those times when the bride intentionally chose a difficult-to-wear gown style to make the bridesmaids look less-pretty than her. It's so bad.

Sorry Britney - one day I'll have something nice to say about your wedding attire.

Interview with Nathan - the guy married by Bruce Campbell

Bruce Campbell: Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up... we have gathered here today to join these two corpses before me, Nathan Dooley and Casey Russell in the everlasting bonds of holy... or maybe unholy matrimony. They have chosen to have you, their undead family and friends, to bear witness to this union of zombie souls, as they embark on their journey together.

Photo courtesey of John Cornicello Photography

Those are the vows from Nathan and Casey’s awesome Zombie Wedding that I posted about last week, and the week prior. The newly-married couple has been kind enough to share some details about their wedding with me, and I am thrilled to share them with you!

It’s important to note that this was not a ZomBcon contest (as I previously thought), but something that the couple suggested to the ZomBcon people.

From Nathan:
When I proposed at the end of this past August, Casey and I talked a little about what we wanted for a wedding. I honestly can't recall who first mentioned the idea... it's almost like we came up with the idea simultaneously of wanting Bruce Campbell to officiate a zombie wedding. I think it went Bruce Campbell as our minister first... that would be ideal we thought... the zombie thing came after we remembered that he would be in town for ZomBcon. I know that we figured it would be impossible to get Bruce Campbell, but my wife decided to contact the folks at ZomBcon via Facebook because we figured it couldn't hurt to ask. That initial Facebook message went out Oct. 1st, we got word that Bruce would do it Oct 15th and decided to go for it Oct 16th. So it was literally two weeks of planning to make it happen.

Truly, it never hurts to ask for something, even if it sounds crazy. I’m really impressed that you guys initiated all this insanity. Was your family excited about this from the start, or did it take some convincing?

We both have really supportive parents and families. Her family lives nearby and mine is spread around the US. Still, both of our immediate families made the trip, I had some cousins and uncles fly in and we had tons of friends. I remember both of our parents laughed and thought it was a great idea and were so happy that we were doing what we wanted and having fun with our ceremony. They all got into the zombie thing in a big way too... everyone dressed up, watched Evil Dead and Army of Darkness before they came here... it was really fun for them. One of the other things that we did, despite the theme of the event, was to have our reception where we could still have some family moments you typically get at a wedding. There were some tearful toasts... dancing with moms and dads, etc...

Did you guys supply the suits, dresses, and flowers, or were they chosen by an event coordinator? Because when I saw the wilted bouquets - well, those are just genius.

Photo courtesey of John Cornicello Photography

We did supply and make all our own outfits. I purchased some old used tuxedos from a rental wholesale place for the groomsmen and myself and we purchased Casey's dress at the Value Village (like Savers/Goodwill) for $35. We both worked on the costumes... I don't know if you saw the baby arms coming out of Casey's pregnant belly in her dress... that was a something she came up with the night I proposed... so happy we were able to make it happen.

The flowers actually were actually a bit of a fiasco. We originally were supposed to have a bunch of dead and wilted flowers from a floral shop but they threw them out the day we were supposed to pick them up. We were also supposed to have some black roses for boutonnieres and bouquets but the same shop decided the day before the wedding that they weren't going to do that either... so we ended up buying some flowers from a local grocery store and did what we could to make them ugly the day of the wedding.

I will say, some great things about having a zombie wedding is what you can save on... flowers, dresses, tuxes... all the "pretty" stuff is pretty much tossed out the window. Value Village is a bride’s best friend for this kind of event and forget something old blue and borrowed... blood is way better.

Agreed! Tell me about The Chin.

Bruce was awesome, a real pro. He is our favorite actor of all time and we can't imagine having anyone else be our officiant. When we first met him for pictures with the wedding party he kind of seamed impatient... like “OK, let’s get this thing done...” [Bruce was] directing the photographers on who was taking the next photo (there were tons of press in this little room so I'm glad he actually took over). As soon as the interviews were done and the press and wedding party left it was one of the coolest moments of the day. Just Casey, Bruce Campbell, our photographer and me hanging out waiting for the wedding to start.

Photo courtesey of John Cornicello Photography

He took some time to ask us about what we do, who we are, and gave some advice on what he thinks is important in a marriage... pretty rad. We went over the wording in the ceremony (which I wrote the night before in the wee hours of the morning). Just a really surreal moment for us both. When it came to the wedding, he was a total pro... it seemed like he really had fun with the ceremony and was able to be Bruce as the caricature most people recognize... which is what we had hoped for.

That’s so cool. What other special moments do you remember?

Some stuff you didn't see in the video... our zombie flower girl throwing dead flower petals and dismembered bloody doll parts and fingers. Also, the procession of our zombie ushers bringing in the parents, and then the wedding party walking up was one of the funniest things I've ever watched in my entire life.
Seriously a fun event, we could never think of doing it any other way and in the end... we have rings on our fingers and an official document on file with the state just like anybody else (but ours is signed by Bruce Campbell).

Is there anything you’d change about your wedding? (Other than the unreliable flower vendor. How hard is it to provide dead flowers?)

Our one big regret in this whole thing really had to do with the extremely short notice... which meant a lot of out of town family and friends simply couldn't make it. The big one's were there of course... moms, dads, brothers and sister... but my grandma really wanted to come, some aunts uncles and cousins were really sad to have missed it.

Photo courtesey of John Cornicello Photography

Nathan, thanks for sharing all of this with me! May I post some of it in my blog?

Sure... post away! We're a little unfamiliar with this pseudo-celebrity status we've had of late... kind of been fun. It's my understanding that some of the wedding will be covered in next month’s Rolling Stone... weird.

It's really funny looking back at our back-up plan... which was to have a super small ceremony... basically just elope and then have a reception with our families sometime this coming June... just some cake and champagne, no zombies, no Bruce Campbell. We're still a little amazed that our wedding actually happened the way we dreamed it would... I don't think that's usually the case.

Any advice for other couples planning a wacky wedding?

[Our day] was fun and I encourage any couple who wants to do something different for their wedding to just do what they want.

Bruce Campbell: You have offered your solemn vows... may your home be a haven of peace and... So on and... Fulfillment of hopes and love... terms of this covenant... and what not...

…You've said the damn words, you love each other right?

By the power vested in me by the Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and all that is living, dead, holy and unholy in this world, I now pronounce you zombie and corpse, man and wife, you may kiss the bride.

Photo courtesey of John Cornicello Photography

This, THIS is why weddings are awesome! I love this couple – they’re obviously good friends and true partners in addition to being married, and they did this crazy thing head-on; together. Congratulations again to Casey and Nathan! I hope you guys have an awesome life together, and I hope you enjoy that little bundle of unholy terror when he/she arrives.

Bruce Campbell to perform mass zombie wedding

This upcoming Halloween weekend is the zomBcon in Seattle, and one lucky couple will be married by Bruce Campbell, and a bunch of other people will do a vow renewal, horde style.

From the zomBcon site, and Bruce Campbell:
The lucky couple, Nathan Dooling and Casey Russell will be getting married in the EMP/SFM at the Seattle Center on Saturday, October 30th at 5pm in their Level 3 suite aka the Cabin in the woods. I myself will be conducting the ceremony from the Necronomicon (The book of the Dead) to a crowd full of Zombies (people) for the Wedding of the Dead, Evil Dead style.

I will also be holding a MASS ZOMBIE RENEWAL OF VOWS shortly afterwards for married couples for all of you fans and folks out there, so grab your sweetie and join us at the cabin Halloween weekend.

Ted Raimi, Danny Hicks, Timothy Patrick Quill, and other cast members will be on hand to serve as witnesses. After the ceremony, continue the festivities with a reception, the centerpiece of which is a screening of the director's cut of The Evil Dead, with a new 35mm print. Evil Dead 2 will follow, and Army of Darkness will screen as well.

Wow, when pictures of this hit the internet, I will be all over them.

Thank you, but no.

This is just an excuse to talk about Morrissey...

WHEN it comes to booking a wedding singer MORRISSEY is not the most chipper choice to put a smile on the face of the congregation. But RUSSELL BRAND and KATY PERRY have asked the miserable Manc to do the honours - even though he's told them not to tie the knot.

We're not tourists, we're just enlightened.

Katy said: "I met Morrissey for the first time the other day and we had tea together. He's Russell's mate [Katy Perry said "mate". I doubt it, The Sun] and he is fascinating but he was giving us a hard time about getting married. He swooned and sighed, 'Oh, left hand third finger, don't do it.' It was just so eloquent and poetic and like one of his songs."

Morrissey - Will Never Marry
Uploaded by samithemenace. - See the latest featured music videos.

I suppose that classic lyric-writing comes in handy when you need to say something out of order. But Mozza - who Russ named his beloved cat after - has still been invited to this autumn's nuptials in India.

Katy added: "It would be great to have him at the wedding but I told him, 'We can't have a Mr Misery like you messing things up.' It's going to be a small ceremony, so I don't think we'll have a proper band. I'd love to have Morrissey."

Hahaha, I love that he was so typically dramatic about getting married. Given all the bitchy stories I've read about Morrissey, I'm surprised he didn't send an assistant to have tea with Katy Perry so that he wouldn't have to.

Have a dreary and romantically soul-crushing weekend.

Mah boyfriend got married

Two days after getting married in Lake Como, Italy, Saturday, newlyweds John Krasinki and Emily Blunt touched down at Los Angeles' LAX airport.

The two held hands and kept their sunglasses on as they picked up their bags. Blunt flashed her new wedding ring. See more pics of Blunt's bling.

Blunt, 27, donned a custom cream chiffon sweetheart draped Marchesa gown with embroidered detail to say "I Do" to her The Office star, 30, who proposed last year with a 3-carat diamond and platinum ring designed by Neil Lane worth $100,000.

"It was an outdoor ceremony and absolutely beautiful," an insider told UsMagazine.com of the nuptials, which were attended by George Clooney and his Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis. Blunt and Krasinski had been staying at Clooney's nearby Lake Como estate since the July 4th weekend.

They seem pretty normal for celebrities, so maybe their relashionship will be another Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward or Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi. I mean, unless John wants to run away with me!

Harry Potter crashes a wedding

In case you hadn't noticed I'm curmudgeonly about new trends. I'm late to twitter, I don't understand Twilight, and I focus a lot of time on vintage celebrity weddings. So it shouldn't be a surprise to you that I'm only halfway through the second Harry Potter book that someone pressed into my hands after years and years (and years) of telling me that I have to read them. I watched the first movie too, so now Daniel Radcliffe and that gorgeous girl Emma Watson catch my eye when I'm reading celebrity gossip.

Daniel Radcliffe, the Harry Potter actor, is taking driving lessons in Dorset because the country lanes are quieter than his London home. The 20-year-old spent last weekend staying in Poole to brush up his driving skills away from the congested roads of the capital. He surprised guests by dropping in unexpectedly to a wedding at the Harbour Heights Hotel, where he was staying. The Harry Potter star even took to the dance floor with the bride and bridesmaids after he was spotted by young fans.

I now pronounce you muggle and wife.

Musician Stuart Darling, 24, who performed at the wedding, said: "He seemed very happy and comfortable having photos taken and signing autographs. He was a thoroughly nice chap. He said he was down from London taking some driving lessons where it was quieter, and seeing a friend. I presume he was on his own - I didn't see anyone with him. He was probably a bit lonely and came out to socialise. As you do at weddings they were dragging people up to dance and he was one of them."

Chelsea Collins, a guest at the wedding, said: "He danced with the bride and was there until 1.30am, joining in with everyone. He was so down to earth and friendly. He brought a bit of magic to the evening."

Very punny, Chelsea.
