Yet another post about spooky wedding cakes

I hope you still like cake, dear reader, because I almost never tire of the topic.

Look at this beautiful Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein cake. The towering tiers with chocolate ganache dripping down the sides are simple and elegant, but still a little gruesome.

This Autumn Wedding Cake is harvest-themed and while it's not gorey and bloody, it is very beautiful and evokes Fall so well. The execution of the pumpkins and the leaves is perfect.

This wedding cake is so relevant to my interests, that I teared up a little when I found it.

I don't understand how it's edible, and I don't care.

A Haunted Mansion wedding cake. It doesn't really look like a cake, but it does look like the Haunted Mansion. Charm City Cakes (made famous via Ace of Cakes and Corey and John's wedding) made it, and I love it more than I can possibly say.

So, are you ready for this weekend - the final weekend of Halloween activities? It's always bittersweet when another October comes to a close...

Bruce Campbell to perform mass zombie wedding

This upcoming Halloween weekend is the zomBcon in Seattle, and one lucky couple will be married by Bruce Campbell, and a bunch of other people will do a vow renewal, horde style.

From the zomBcon site, and Bruce Campbell:
The lucky couple, Nathan Dooling and Casey Russell will be getting married in the EMP/SFM at the Seattle Center on Saturday, October 30th at 5pm in their Level 3 suite aka the Cabin in the woods. I myself will be conducting the ceremony from the Necronomicon (The book of the Dead) to a crowd full of Zombies (people) for the Wedding of the Dead, Evil Dead style.

I will also be holding a MASS ZOMBIE RENEWAL OF VOWS shortly afterwards for married couples for all of you fans and folks out there, so grab your sweetie and join us at the cabin Halloween weekend.

Ted Raimi, Danny Hicks, Timothy Patrick Quill, and other cast members will be on hand to serve as witnesses. After the ceremony, continue the festivities with a reception, the centerpiece of which is a screening of the director's cut of The Evil Dead, with a new 35mm print. Evil Dead 2 will follow, and Army of Darkness will screen as well.

Wow, when pictures of this hit the internet, I will be all over them.

Couple 'ties the noose' at Universal Halloween Horror Nights

Every October the Universal theme parks have Halloween Horror Nights - nights when the usual attractions are transformed into an amazing wonderland of terrifying mazes with zombies, clowns, and frightening Universal-owned characters. This year they held their first-ever wedding at the park in Orlando - one lucky couple won the wedding package of their dreams.

The couple, April Richardson and Adam Cochran, was married in front of the “Legendary Truth” house among a crowd of Scareactors, family and friends. Once the groom kissed the bride, the chainsaws were fired up and the couple was taken by hearse to the reception through the park. They enjoyed the first class Universal Orlando catering at the reception and a wedding cake decorated in skulls and spider webs. The couple will be spending their honeymoon at Universal Orlando, and will be attending Halloween Horror Nights with their guests.

Honesty, I'm super bummed that she still wore a white gown. Red would have been so beautiful in this setting. But I LOVELOVE the chainsaws that start after they kiss. I know it's weird, but it makes me insanely happy.

Wedding panties photo wins award

I really just want to share this story because of the bride's beautiful shoes.

A saucy snap of a bride with her knickers around her ankles has helped a wedding photographer scoop a prestigious award.

Michael Dearden's shot of 38-year-old Angela Lancaster landed him UK Master Photographer of the Year 2010 at this year's Master Photographer awards. Angela said: "We had an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding and wanted to show that in an off-the-wall way.

"I knew Michael's pictures could be quite risque.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, panties. Who can see panties when the bride is wearing flower-encrusted mary janes? Excuse me while my teenage heart goes pitter patter.

"My husband was shocked because the first he knew about it was when he saw the proofs of the pictures."

The black and white image was taken at Angela's wedding to Gareth Thomas, 39, in Cardiff this year. It was said by judges to "push the creative boundaries" of photography. Michael, of Caerphilly, South Wales, also won best Contemporary Wedding Photographer at the Birmingham ceremony.

That photo won the Contemporary Wedding award and UK Master Photographer of the Year.

Here's the Classical Wedding winner Mark Bryce:

This photo is really beautiful too. I absolutely love the modest tea-length gown with the full skirt and GLOVES! So traditional and beautiful.

Well, that's enough wedding porn for today. Enjoy your weekend!

What in the hell is going on here?

A bizarre wedding video from Russia. It has everything!

Sparkles!
Kissy Noises!
Magic!
Laser hands!
A casual game of IRL Pong!

A toast to the bride and groom while they dance romantically in some kind of enchanted forest.

No love lost

This is probably concept art, and not an actual law firm, but it's funny:

Joy Division Divorce Attorneys

Love Will Tear You Apart.

One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. This song makes me *sigh* every time.

Short attention span wedding videos

Here's a mini collection of mini movies about mini wedding disasters.
(There are no serious injuries, if you're squeamish.)

This bride's gown catches fire. She's lucky to have family that will just rip off their clothing to help.

These horses get spooked and take the carriage on a little adventure across the street.

The bride's attitude makes me laugh. She looks like she's thinking "Okay, I'm done with that now" and just walks off.

This video is cute, but only because the bride just smiles, laughs, and carries on.

Ew!

Hope you have a disaster-free weekend.

Gorgeous spiderweb gown

Check out these gorgeous spiderweb and gothy gowns - perfect for the dark princess in you (and me). This would be so awesome at the fantasy Halloween wedding that is constantly going on in my head. Generally, I don't wear super-girly, foo-foo dresses, but I'd make an exception for these.

Loooove the sparkly spiderweb over the full gown. It looks overly sparkly in the photo, but I'll bet it's more subtle in person.

If this gown was in my closet, I would wear it all the time. I'd be like Marge in her mangled Chanel suit. This would work at the grocery store and the local coffee shop, right?

It looks like a giant, ruffly, macabre cupcake. LOVE.

Halloween is only two and a half weeks away! After that, all the fun stuff dries up. Don't waste this precious time - get out there and scare the bejeebus out of someone, eat a lot of candy, and wear excessive amounts of make-up. Woo, Halloween!

Amazing gear ring

My next husband* is getting this ring, because it is AMAZING! If you like steampunk, things that are generally amazing, or stuff that does other stuff (a broad category), you will probably like this:

In the immortal words of Keanu Reeves: Whoa. Dude.

These rings are made from matte stainless steel and they're $165. That seems reasonable to me? I'm stingy with certain things, but I am seriously considering buying one for myself, and I'd certainly get one for my guy as a wedding ring if we were getting married.

Yes, this sounds like a commercial, but it's not! I don't know this company, I'm not receiving anything for gushing about their products, I just really, really like this jewelry.

*hahaha, just kidding...dear. I...love you. :| I mean, :)

Vintage Wedding - Judy Garland & Vincente Minnelli

Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli were married on June 15, 1945 - it was his first and her second. She was 19 years his junior.

The two fell in love while working on Meet Me In St. Louis together in 1944. They married a year later, and had their first child - the fabulous Liza Minnelli - a year after that. Phew!

Photo from The Judy Room.
Garland is only 23 in this photo, but she looks much younger. The only thing that really stands out is her lush bouquet of what look like peonies - my all time favorite flower. The dress is difficult to see, but it seems like most of the wedding gowns from the 40s and 50s cover every square inch of skin. She's wearing something that I can only call a bonnet instead of a traditional veil. There's not a hint of jewelry on her at all. The groom looks very classic in a simple black suit. I have to say that this is not at all what I was expecting from an icon like Judy Garland. She looks lovely, but very plain.

The two divorced in 1951 and went on to marry several more times. Their daughter, Liza, married and divorced four times herself. More on her later!

Vintage wedding - Ginger aka Tina Louise

I saw this the other day over at one of my new favorite blogs I'm Learning to Share!

It's Ginger's wedding! But don't call her Ginger. I LOVED Gilligan's Island so much as a kid that I think I have every episode memorized. The situation is similar to Lucy and Desi; I was sad to find out that Tina Louise and Bob Denver* didn't get along on set, and that Tina Louise was kind of a prima donna. Ginger was my least favorite character on Gilligan's Island, but there's no denying her striking beauty.

On April 3, 1966, Tina Louise (born Tatiana Blacker) and Les Crane were married.

Visit the link above for some giant scans of their spread in TV Radio Mirror.
It was her first and only marriage, and his third (or fourth) of five marriages. Les Crane was a longtime radio and TV host; we have him to thank for the concept of a top 40. He's an interesting guy, so I'm ashamed to say I don't know much about him. But back to the bride - she looks so beautiful and so very '60s in this gown and surrounded by daisies. It's nice to finally see a little skin on a vintage bride. She's wearing a floor length gown with short sleeves and a square neck dress. As always the groom has it easy - he looks really (really) handsome in a simple dark suit.

From left to right: Thurston Howell III, Willy Gilligan, Eunice 'Lovey' Howell, the Groom, Ginger Grant (or maybe Eva Grubb?), Mary Ann Summers, and the Skipper Jonas Grumby. Don't ask why I know so much about Gilligan's Island, I just do! Where is the Professor, Roy Hinkley (Russel Johnson)? I'm sad he's not there because I had a crush on him as a kid. The In Crowd has a theory: ...perhaps Russell Johnson was behind the camera, snapping the photograph with a camera he'd built out of a coconut shell and some beach glass. Haha!

-Kay

*Side note: If you haven't seen the Many Loves of Dobie Gillis what are you waiting for? Bob Denver is hilarious as the beatnik Maynard G Krebs.

Vintage wedding - Lucy and "Ricky"

My all time favorite funny lady is Lucille Ball. I Love Lucy has and always will be one of my top three favorite shows of all time. It doesn't matter how many times I've seen an episode - I'll watch it again.

The movie Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter slightly traumatized my young life. As a kid I honestly thought that they were a happily married couple, so it was sad for me to find out that they had their pens poised above the divorce decree for the entire run of the show.

Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were married on November 30, 1940 and then filed for divorce in 1944, but did not dissolve their marriage. They stayed married for the full run of both I Love Lucy and The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour before finally divorcing in 1960.

Lucille Ball's Wedding Portrait

Photo from Getty Images

The dress has a low sweetheart neckline, but is still very modest thanks to the lace overlay and sleeves. I love the flame-red hair, lips and nails. Unfortunately I couldn't find any pictures of Desi from their first wedding, but I'm sure he looked handsome.

Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz at their second wedding

Photo from Corbis

The couple had a second wedding in 1949 and both were in white. The bride's style looks more youthful here than it did in the formal gown above. She has a full skirt, floral headpiece, sheer lace gloves, and a knotted wrap around her shoulders. The groom looks great in a white suit with a dark tie and pocketsquare.

I'm still sad that their romance ended, but I'll always love them together.

Robert Smith from the Cure - wedding photos

HAPPY OCTOBER!

Don’t tell Andrew Eldritch, but the Cure is one of my favorite bands. Yes, Robert Smith does look like a messy dad-type these days, but he used to be so cute in a cuddly sort of way.

Robert Smith and his future wife Mary Poole met in drama class when Robert was only 14 years old. They were married in 1988 and have been together ever since. According to this site Lovesong was written as a special wedding present to the bride. I can’t imagine anything more flattering – it’s such a beautiful song. [Update: Apparently this is an urban legend? :(]

Look at this beautiful couple

The groom’s not dressed quite like I imagined, but his hair and dramatic make up are classic Bob. The bride looks happy and radiant.

Group shot

The first thing I notice – WHAT IS ROBERT SMITH WEARING ON HIS FEET! Yeesh. Is that a trademark that I’m unaware of? I love the bride’s dress though. It has a lot of layers and volume without being too poufy. They look so adorably perfect together.
